‘Get Real!’ – Luke 13:14-17

But the leader in charge of the synagogue was indignant that Jesus had healed [the woman who was bent double] on the Sabbath day. “There are six days of the week for working,” he said to the crowd. “Come on those days to be healed, not on the Sabbath.”

But the Lord replied, “You hypocrites! Each of you works on the Sabbath day! Don’t you untie your ox or your donkey from its stall on the Sabbath and lead it out for water? This dear woman, a daughter of Abraham, has been held in bondage by Satan for eighteen years. Isn’t it right that she be released, even on the Sabbath?”

This shamed his enemies, but all the people rejoiced at the wonderful things he did.

Luke 13:14-17 NLT

Key Thought

Worship of God will always include concern for his people. In fact, worship that is not tied to living correctly with people is not worship and does not please God. While we don’t like to use the word “shame” in today’s politically correct world, we need to realize that some things are shameful. One of those shameful things is to pretend to be a God-worshiping person and then to treat his children as if they didn’t matter to us or to their Father in heaven.

Today’s Prayer

Father, help me know that a crucial part of worshiping you is treating people with the love, respect, kindness, and dignity with which you would treat them. Father, I want to know this essential truth in my heart and in my daily lifestyle, not just in my head. Use me to bless others and bring you praise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
