[After talking about his return to his disciples, Jesus] gave them this illustration: “Notice the fig tree, or any other tree. When the leaves come out, you know without being told that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near. I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.”
Key Thought
While the Temple will become rubble, Jerusalem will be destroyed, and the heavens and the earth will pass away, one thing will last forever: Jesus’ words! His promises are faithful and secure. His words are true and lasting. So let’s give thanks for his words and for his sharing them with us.
Today’s Prayer
O Father, thank you for the message of Jesus and for every word he spoke and every promise he made. Help me as I seek to learn them, to incorporate them into my daily life, and to build my future on their truths and promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
