Then Jesus sent [the man whose leprosy he had cured] on his way with a stern warning: “Don’t tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.”
Key Thought
“Take along the offering required in the law of Moses.” Two principles are at work here. First, the man cleansed of his leprosy needed to do what was required to regain the right to enter into daily public life. Second, him going to the priests would validate Jesus’ authority over disease. Jesus is no charlatan. He is the comforting, validating, and affirming LORD and Savior we all need.
Today’s Prayer
Holy God and precious LORD Jesus, help me see what I need to do to show those around me not only that you are my LORD, but also that you want me to do what is right, good, honest, fair, and just. To you, O God, and to you, the triumphant Son, I offer my praise and thanks forever and ever. Amen.
